HOT 5 - 10/31/23

Happy Halloween Hot Friends!

The frights of Halloween can’t compare to the real terrors in our world today. I returned from an idyllic two weeks in Sicily to a world turned upside down. Not only is the Middle East a war zone, but our House of Representatives is one too, with a religious fanatic just voted in as Speaker of the House. I can understand why we're craving the escapism of the holiday more than ever with consumer spending expected to reach a fresh record of $12.2 billion, surpassing last year's $10.6 billion. Trick or treat?

This week's Hot 5 is late. I apologize for that. It's been a rough month. Let's check out jewelry trends for fall/winter 2023 and learn how to wear our beautiful new Lalela scarves. Here we go with this week's Hot 5:

1. Top 5 Fall ‘23 Jewelry Trends

2. How To Style Your Scarf

3. HOT Pick - Booties!

4. Hot Shops - Clic

5. The Always Fabulous Manhattan Vintage Show!

2. How To Style Your Scarf

We have some beautiful new scarves for fall from our favorite vendor Lalela and as you know all purchases from the brand go to supporting arts programs in South Africa for at-risk students. The scarves feature the designs of these truly talented artists and we love supporting them! Every one of these new designs is perfect to pair with your winter coat or jacket this season. These scarves are a large rectangle and can be a bit intimidating to style. I typically wear mine draped around my shoulders, the better to show off the amazing designs. If you're looking for some additional ways to style them check this video or this one. I apologize that the videos feel dated and the music is painful, I'll just have to do my own version the next time!

Blooming Marvelous Lalela Scarf

3. HOT Pick - Booties!

The bootie or ankle boot is my favorite fall footwear choice! They effortlessly complement both casual and dressy outfits, pairing flawlessly with jeans, dresses, or skirts. They offer a chic edge too, making them the go-to option during crisp and unpredictable fall weather. I find them almost as comfortable as sneakers and they have a little more support. My personal favorites are from master shoemaker, Stuart Weitzman but I've given you several other options below:

4. Hot Shops Clic

Who remembers Christiane Celle of Calypso fame? Christiane is a former stylist who founded a boho French girl fashion empire with her Calypso Boutique in St. Barths in 1995. After selling Calypso in the mid-2000s Christiane created Clic to sell photography and art books. Soon using her unique approach to curating exceptional global products she transformed Clic from a bookstore and art gallery into a sophisticated destination. Clic offers contemporary photography, art, fashion, books, and home goods. I've shopped the four stores in Manhattan and the two in the Hamptons and I love the array of chic items across many categories including home, kids, books, art, fashion and really great gifts!

5. The Always Fabulous Manhattan Vintage Show!

Last weekend, I attended one of my favorite events, the Manhattan Vintage Show! New York’s iconic vintage show features the largest collection of clothing, jewelry, accessories, and antique textiles in the world. Three times a year, over 90 dealers showcase their collections of vintage clothing, jewelry, accessories, and textiles that reflect every era. I've been attending this show for years. Recently, it was purchased by Amy Abrams who has retooled and revived the 20-year-old show with extraordinary creativity. Her mission has been to make vintage accessible to all. She has incorporated live entertainment, dressing rooms, and on-demand services alongside fresh vintage dealers and exclusive vintage capsule collections. It’s a 3-day party of vintage enthusiasts of all ages! No shopping experience I've had lately has been as exciting to me as this show. Best of all, it's an incredible shopping experience that supports sustainability!
