WHAT’S HOT?
These Dress Solutions for Spring Events!
5/19/26
Dear Hot Friends,
It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve been in touch—sorry about that! Things have been… well, a lot lately. But I’m back, and I want to talk about a seasonal challenge I’m guessing many of us are facing right now.
This time of year always brings a flood of invitations: weddings, graduations, reunions, garden parties, or simply any excuse to celebrate the long-awaited pleasures of spring. And with those invitations often comes the inevitable question: What am I going to wear?
I currently have an afternoon wedding on my calendar, and the dress code is “black tie optional.” Which, honestly, can mean just about anything depending on who’s interpreting it! I realized I haven’t bought a true special-occasion dress in quite a while, so I decided to do a little research.
I had a few non-negotiables:
under $700 (well under would be even better )
wearable for many occasions
midi or maxi length
comfortable enough to wear for hours
and preferably in a bright color or beautiful print
So naturally, I went down the rabbit hole—and I thought I’d share some of my favorite finds in case you’re looking too.
The good news? There are actually some wonderful options out there right now that feel festive without feeling fussy. Dresses you can sit, eat, dance, and fully enjoy yourself in—which, in my opinion, should always be the goal.
And the best part is that all of these styles work beautifully with flat or kitten-heeled sandals for maximum comfort. For those of us who prefer a little arm coverage, a simple shrug, a lightweight cardigan, or a scarf does the trick perfectly.
L to R: Aqua for Bloomingdales $68, Everlane $138, Etsy $45, Marcella $70
As you can see from the photo at the top of this newsletter, I chose the Busayo dress! I’m really happy with my choice because it met all my non-negotiables, and I’m a big fan of Busayo Olupona, who wants to transcend trends and seasons with her designs.
And of course—you knew this was coming—this is where jewelry makes all the difference. A striking earring, a necklace that works with the neckline, or a bold bangle (or two) can completely transform the look, making it feel personal, polished, and a little more you. That’s where HOT comes in.
