HOT 5 - 7/26/25

Dear Hot Friends,

These days, it feels like all anyone can talk about is the extreme weather—or our equally extreme administration. Both are doing their part to make life feel a little...unbearable. So let’s shift the focus to something we can control: staying cool, feeling good, and embracing a few things that bring us some joy—like clever heat hacks or nailing one of this season's standout trends. Let’s dive into this Week’s Hot 5

1. Hot Hack Of The Week -- Hot Heat Hacks!

2. This Is Hot! -- The Summer's Big Boho Trend

3. Obsession Confession -- Beauty Products Made For The Heat

4. Shopportunities -- Lazy Point In Amagansett

5. Culture Club -- Rashid Johnson And Jack Whitten

1. Hot Hack Of The Week --  Hot Heat Hacks!

Yes, the weather we're experiencing this summer feels hotter than ever, and it calls for pulling out all the stay-cool hacks we can come up with! I've got 2 for you today.

Ode To the Lowly House Dress

One of my favorite ways to beat the summer heat is by slipping into a "house dress" the moment I walk through the door. Light, airy, and incredibly comfortable, it instantly makes me feel at least 10 degrees cooler. Maybe this dates me, but growing up, both my mother and grandmother had entire wardrobes of these bright, patterned cotton dresses. They wore them around the house, out in the garden, and for quick trips to the corner store. I was always mesmerized by their playful designs—florals, geometrics, cheerful buttons or zip fronts—and, of course, the oversized pockets. For decades, house dresses were a wardrobe staple for women—known for their loose, non-restrictive silhouettes and soft, breathable fabrics. To me, they can't be beat in the summertime! Scroll down for a few modern-day versions of the house dress—and consider browsing vintage shops for the real thing!

I'm A Fan Of Yours!

New to HOT this week: a collection of utterly charming fans created by my dear friend Mark Yeo. Mark and I go way back—we first met in 1994 while working at Elle magazine in Singapore. I was a stylist, he was a brilliant art director, and we quickly became kindred creative spirits. When I moved back to the U.S. in the late ’90s, Mark settled in NYC, and we’ve been close ever since. Mark is one of the most imaginative people I know—constantly dreaming up things that are stylish, witty, and full of joy. So, when he showed me his latest creations, the I’m a Fan of Yours fans, I knew I had to share them with my HOT customers. Perfect for this steamy summer, these fans are as delightful as they are practical. Don’t miss them!

2. This Is Hot! The Summer's Big Boho Trend

This summer, Boho style has made a confident return, blending laid-back ease with artistic flair in a way that feels especially right for 2025. Rooted in the free-spirited style of the 1960s and ’70s, boho has always celebrated individuality, handcrafted details, and a relaxed relationship with fashion. Boho style, full of flowy caftans, vintage jewelry, eclectic layering, and embroidery, is a style I've been in love with since I was in college in the 70s. In a season marked by rising temps and rising tensions, it’s no wonder the trend is resonating: boho offers both comfort and self-expression, letting us feel stylish without feeling constrained. Have you taken our Style Type Quiz to discover if you have Boho Style? Here are 6 Hot items on the site now giving major Boho vibes!

3. Obsession Confession -- Beauty Products Made For The Heat

When it's this hot outside, it's hard even to imagine applying products to our hot and sweaty faces! However, it's just as important, if not more so, to look pulled together and fresh-faced in the heat of the summer as in other times of the year. At Hot, we believe wholeheartedly in that old pearl of wisdom -- Looking good equals feeling good! The products listed below are all ones that I use on the hottest days in the city. They are lightweight, sheer, and cooling.

4. Shopportunities -- Lazy Point In Amagansett

One of my favorite stores (maybe my favorite?) out on the east end of Long Island is a boutique called Lazy Point in the charming village of Amagansett. Owned by the indefatigable Brazilian, Claudja Bilcalho, it's a literal cabinet of curiosities. Filled with fabulous clothing, jewelry, art, and home goods from all over the world, I always want absolutely everything in the store! I'm still wearing things I got there many years ago, and it's where I first encountered the phenomenal bags of Juditha Sakinofsky, which we carry on Hot.. Unfortunately, the boutique doesn't have a website to buy from, so don't miss this store if you're ever in the Hamptons!

5. Culture Club -- Rashid Johnson At The Guggenheim

Last week, I saw Rashid Johnson's stellar exhibit entitled "A Poem For Deep Thinkers" at the Guggenheim, which I really enjoyed. His bold paintings and sculptural furniture were striking, but what I loved most were the plants in amazing pots also made by the artist. The way greenery spilled through the space made the whole thing feel alive and immersive. It was visually rich and full of mood.

That said, I found myself even more drawn to the Jack Whitten show entitled “Jack Whitten: The Messenger” at MoMA, which I saw a few weeks before. His work felt a bit more grounded and authentic to me, with a quiet power that stayed with me longer.

Terry xoxo
