Happy 2022 HOT Friends!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and that no one was too adversely affected by our current covid situation! It's hard to keep a positive outlook when things keep shifting into the unknown but if we've learned anything the past two years it's that we have reserves of resilience to rely on! My beautiful holiday amaryllis plant pictured above waited until this first week of January to bloom and I'm taking that as a positive sign for a hopeful new year!

Here's this week's HOT 5:

1. New Year's Style Intentions

2. What's New For Interiors

3. Pantone Color Of The Year Is Very Peri

4. And Just Like That

5. The First HOT Pick Of 2022

1. New Year's Style Intentions

Resolutions are so 2020, aren't they? This year I think I'll go with the wildly popular new approach of "intentions," a softer, less pressurized version of resolutions that comes out of the mindfulness world. So I'll share my style intentions here with the hope that they'll spark some ideas for how you want to think about your personal style in 2022. Or maybe you just want to add some spice to your style? You can always check out the HOT Style Quiz to help you get started.

Wear my clothes! -- Perhaps like me you have a closet full of clothes you're not wearing. Yes, life has changed over the last couple of years but there is plenty to be mined in that closet with a little imagination and determination. I plan on working harder to incorporate my existing wardrobe and stop thinking about buying new. Let me know if I can help you.

Continue to de-clutter my closets and donate! -- I've gotten to a pretty good place with this one but there's still more I can sort through and give away. There are some great easy resources for selling things you don't want, like Thred Up and Depop.

Complete outfits by wearing my accessories -- I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I LOVE accessories. In fact, they're my favorite fashion item because of their power to immediately change up whatever you're wearing for the better. Lately, I've gotten lazy and it's time for me to get back into wearing them daily.

Consider a new beauty look -- I've been feeling in a bit of a rut when it comes to my beauty routine. I have my makeup application down to a few tried and true products and colors and it's getting to be a bit boring. I think it's time to find shades that I haven't typically worn and a new way of applying those colors. Maybe I'll find some ideas here?

Shop more sustainably -- I can't say enough about the importance of this intention and it's a hard one. I'll admit to responding to the siren call of fast fashion on more than one occasion in 2021 but I plan on trying to be more vigilant this year and just say no to the fast-fashion traps out there. See some HOT vintage jewelry pieces below.

To help you with this one HOT is giving 30% off all vintage until Jan. 31st!

2. What's New For Interiors

Style intentions aren't just for the fashion on your back! The beginning of a new year is also a great time to think about updating your home, whether in a big renovation way or just some small changes to freshen things up. Vogue always does a good job of keeping us abreast of the changes coming our way for interiors and I love that they've included the thoughts of Interior design guru Timothy Corrigan, a personal friend from our time in Paris in the late 80s. Read what's new here.

3. Pantone Color Of The Year Is Very Peri

Pantone's color of the year for 2022 is one they actually newly created as opposed to one from the archives. It's called Very Peri and Pantone describes it as "a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through". The color is a pretty, spirited blue with violet-red undertones. It's super wearable and a color that looks good on a variety of skin tones. What do you think, is it a color you're likely to wear? This is a fun color of the year report based on your zodiac sign from paint company Valspar.

4. And Just Like That

Who out there is watching the new reboot of Sex and the City? I wonder if you've found it as confounding as I have? There have been lots written about the new series which catches up with Carrie Bradshaw and her friends (sans Samantha) 17 years later. I was into the first episode but now must admit I'm not sure I'm liking how any of them have aged. I'm particularly dismayed at the styling choices the show has made. Carrie whose clothes I enjoyed seeing in the late 90s now looks a bit uncomfortable and disheveled. This article from the NY times this week does a great job of expressing some of what I've been feeling about And Just Like That. Let me know what you think.

5. The First HOT Pick Of 2022

And it's the Sweatsuit?? I know, we were all supposed to be deep in dressed-up roaring 20s style by now but Omicron had other plans for us. I've actually been rather happy to be back in warm, comfy sweats these last couple of weeks but it's as much a result of the bad weather outside as it is of Omicron. My personal choice is this extremely soft, totally sustainable number from MWL Athleisure in a chic shade of brick they call warm umber (and it's now on sale!) I've chosen 5 options for you below from the affordable to the ultra extravagant.
