HOT 5 - 5/7/22

Hello Hot Friends,

Happy Mother's Day to all you beautiful mother's out there! Above is a very old photo of my grandmother and mother at around 8 months in 1920. My grandmother was 29 years old at the time and was considered a very old first-time mother :). Of course, no one really spoke about things like women's health issues when I was a little girl but I did overhear talk about how hard it was for my grandmother and knew that she felt lucky to have had my mother. Can you imagine the atmosphere in the early 20th century for a woman dealing with reproductive issues? Our struggle continues.

Here's this week's Hot 5:

1. Fab New Bags on HOT!

2. The Met Gala

3. The Hot Pick - Put A Ring On It!

4. You're Blushing!

5. How Is This Possible??

1. Fab New Bags on HOT!

I’m incredibly excited to add Juditha Sakinofsky’s textile bags to the HOT product mix! And these bags are as sturdy and practical as they are beautiful! They are made with 100% cotton African fabric and each piece is made with zero or as little waste as possible. Owner Juditha strives to use each remaining piece of fabric to create another item. That's the sustainability story that I'm after! Currently, I'm carrying her large totes and zippered pouches but hope to have more of her lineup on the site someday soon.

2. The Met Gala

This week saw the post-pandemic return of the Met Ball to the first Monday in May, the day it's been held since 1995. According to the museum, Monday's event brought in a record $17.4 million in support of the Met's Costume Institute. The 2022 Met Gala theme, In America: An Anthology of Fashion is built around the tenets of American style, and celebrates unsung heroes of US design. The dress code was gilded glamour and I loved many of the outfits this time around. Check this link to see if you agree with me. Vogue Editor Anna Wintour is the honorary Chairwoman every year. Co-Chairs of the ball this year were Tom Ford, Blake Lively, and husband Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Regina King who sadly wasn't present. Of course, it wouldn't be the Met Ball without drama so read this smart analysis from writer Amy Odell to get a take on it.

3. The Hot Pick - Put A Ring On It!

Fun and playful rings, the likes of which we haven't seen in quite a while, are certainly having a moment. And why not? These crazy times call for clothing and accessories that bring a smile to our lips. You're not wrong if you think these rings look like something your toddler daughter or granddaughter would want to wear. Bright colors, simplistic cheery design motifs and nice price points are all reasons we want to put a ring on it! We have a few rings that fit the bill on the HOT site now too, so check below for the fun examples I've chosen for you.

Colorful Enamel Snake Ring
$20.00

Eye catching and unique, this bright enamel snake ring would be a great addition to your spring look. It can be worn on any finger. Fun!

Angelo Moretti Turquoise Resin Cocktail Ring
$45.00

You won’t be able to take your eyes off of this large attention grabbing cocktail ring! The square resin ring has a very pretty patina that looks almost pearlescent. Adjustable so it can be worn on any finger and by many different sized customers. 1 1/4” x 1 1/4”

I'm very excited to introduce Angelo Moretti Jewelry! It is a handmade jewelry brand, designed in Belgium and produced in Italy. The contemporary designs are made with an eye for durability, comfort, and above all, beauty. Made of high-quality resin, every piece feels luxurious, surprisingly lightweight, and the beautifully intense colors truly pop. The brand was founded in 2019 by designer Angelo Moretti and quickly became well known and respected throughout Europe. I'm thrilled to offer this brand to my customers.

Vintage Signed Lalique Cabochon Ring
$140.00

Purchased at Lalique in Paris in 1989, this very pretty amber colored crystal dome ring has never been worn. Size 7, it can easily be worn as a pinky ring.

4. You're Blushing!

It's been a while since blush has been such a major player among the makeup categories. After quite a few years of blush being just part of the whole contouring trend, makeup artists are now showing that blush is enough to get the same effect of many contouring tricks. This article from Allure gives tips for how it's done. Personally, I've been loving many of the new formulations for cream blush. It is a great choice for a healthy, more natural-looking flush of color, and using your fingertips to apply makes it effortless. Check out some of these examples to add some color to your cheeks!

5. How Is This Possible??

You know I have to go there. This past Monday morning's news was shocking, to say the least even for someone who's been paying attention. As I'm sure you know, Politico published a leaked draft opinion from the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade, unleashing a wave of activism on both sides of the debate. I find it unbelievable to think that my 3-year-old granddaughter might have fewer rights than I did 50 years ago. What other rights that we've taken for granted do we have to worry about? See this link and this one for places to donate and support abortion rights. We must do all that we can to change our country’s trajectory!

I'll leave you with this adorable Mother's Day video from Chanel. Hope your Mother's Day is as beautiful as all of you are!

Terry xoxo
