HOT 5 - 9/18/22

Hello, there Hotties!

Well, now we're in the thick of it. It being what the French call La Rentrée. A perfectly gallic expression for the period following the end of summer when we return to our bustling, chaotic, over-scheduled lives. Even though you won't find a bigger fan of summer than I, I'll admit to appreciating the cooler temps and the pulse-quickening excitement that "back to school" always brings. Lots happening this month; the return to IRL fashion week, new fall trends to discover, and new cultural happenings to experience. This week’s Hot 5 is devoted to some of what's new for this fall with plenty more to come. Savor these golden days!

This week's Hot 5:

1. Fall Accessory Trends

2. The News From NYFW

3. Hot Pick -- Vests!

4. Hot Shops -- Bloomies!

5. New Shows Worth Watching

1. Fall Accessory Trends

So just what are the significant accessory trends we're seeing for fall 2022? Here are 5 of the top 10 trends this season (the other 5 will be revealed in the next Hot 5, so stay tuned). You might wonder why you should care about trends and whether they are still a thing these days when anything and everything seems to go. But remember, accessories are an easy and economical way to freshen your wardrobe even if you consider yourself immune to trends and they help you express your personal style too!

Pearls -- Ok so exactly when aren't pearls a trend?? We can never get enough of these beauties.

Charming Charms -- Charms are magical and who doesn't need a little magic in their life?

Get Cuffed -- This season anything on your wrist just has to be big and bold!

Falling for Florals -- Florals for fall are kind of groundbreaking, don't you think?

Tie One On -- The skinny scarf is a fresh take on neckwear. And there are so many different ways to tie it!

2. The News From NYFW

You probably know that New York Fashion Week for spring '23 has just ended. The shows which returned to IRL in force after 2 years of covid interference brought some much-needed excitement, celebration, and fabulously dressed people out. In fact, some feel that the street style contingent is the best show of all and you can check it out here and see if you agree. Anna over at Vogue had the biggest street party of the week with her Vogue World Fashion Show held in New York's Meatpacking District. Queen Serena opened the multi-platform extravaganza in a shimmering silver gown and cape custom made by Balenciaga. What followed was an incredibly diverse street fair parade of inclusion. I found it riveting and recommend you watch it for the fabulous fall fashion, the 90s supermodels (hey there Amber and Shalom!), and Lil Nas X.

Key takeaways from the Spring 2023 fashion shows.....extremely bare looks, the colors bright lime and juicy tangerine, bubble hems, fringe, long skirts, high low hemlines, and elevated sportswear. 3. Hot Pick -- Vests!

I'm so excited that sweater vests are back in a big way this fall! I have quite the collection going back 30 years and it will be so much fun to dig them out and wear them again. They can add tons of sartorial personality to your outfit. Pop one over a simple white tee or shirt with jeans and you've instantly elevated your look not to mention the warmth factor once we get into colder weather. Check out the ones I've chosen for you below:

4. Hot Shops -- Bloomies!

In the last newsletter, I started a new HOT 5 feature called Hot Shops on stores you have to check out. This week I was inspired to pick Bloomingdales since the store is currently celebrating 150 years in business! Bloomingdales and I go way back. It was the first department store in NYC that I visited frequently after I came to New York and got married here in the late 70s. All of our first big furniture purchases (that 70s beige sectional sofa and the expandable dining table) came from their furniture dept. And back then Bloomies was the absolute coolest place to see and be seen. It had the most exciting not-to-be-missed events like the China and India store takeovers. I prowled the cosmetics department for all the newest looks and fragrances (it's where my YSL Opium addiction began:) I even have a personal connection to the store, my amazing mother-in-law, Barbara, was a handbag buyer for the Bloomies Fresh Meadows store in 1949! For the 150-year celebration, Bloomies worked with many of their wonderful vendors to create products that honor the store, you can see them all here. As for what I often end up buying at Bloomingdales, check out the images below. And 45 years later I still enjoy the frozen yogurt from 40 Carrots every time I visit the store!

Bloomies affordable private label brand is always on trend.

Staud bag created for the Bloomies 150th celebrations.

The best place to buy great towels in NYC.

This Ganni Bucket Hat is an example of Bloomies’ great accessories.

5. New Shows Worth Watching

We can always count on Fall for new television; this fall is no different. These 3 shows that I've just started watching and really enjoying are women-led and highly recommended. First up is Recipes For Love And Murder whose producer and showrunner is dear friend Thierry Cassuto who we know well from our days in Paris. Based on mystery books of the same name and filmed in small-town South Africa, they're a rare peek into an intriguing culture and some mouth-watering recipes to boot! The next show I'm loving is Bad Sisters on Apple TV. This dark comedy thriller set in Dublin is about 5 sisters and the awful man in their lives that they want to kill. It has me laughing out loud. Lastly, I'm enjoying another comedy called Loot. Also on Apple TV, it stars Maya Rudolph, one of my favorite comediennes, as the divorced wife of a tech billionaire with an 87 Billion dollar settlement to spend. Sound familiar? Hilarious!

Terry xoxo
