Sorry I've been MIA for a few weeks! Fall got off to a challenging start, but I'm back now, and going forward, I'll be here regularly. In this last quarter of 2026, I have lots of style and fashion news to share, along with plenty of inspiration to help you get dressed with confidence and ease.
I'm happy to report that one of this season's trends is the strong return of hair accessories! If you're receiving this email, you probably know that I'm rarely seen without a headband, hair clip, scrunchie, or some kind of wrap or scarf. I'm always extolling their virtues, from the practical (hiding a bad hair day or covering gray) to the fashionable (adding color, personality, and glamour to your hairstyle). Here I am with a multitude of hair accessories from the previous year.
Pretty hairpins, headbands, clips, and barrettes work with every hair length and texture, and this season it's easier than ever to find an accessory that works for you. I've been collecting chic hair accessories for 40 years, and I've recently added many pieces from my collection to the HOT Accessories tab. Here's a look at what I have for you!
Claw Clips
Personally, I've never thought of claw clips as something to flaunt. I've mostly used them for practical purposes, like getting my hair off my face when applying makeup or sectioning it for product application. Lately, though, I'm seeing more whimsical, stylish clips that feel like accessories in their own right—or even little pieces of jewelry. Barrettes and Combs
Barrettes and hair combs are back! Either one can instantly update a simple hairstyle. And don't worry about looking juvenile—these aren't just for the young! Go big and bold with embellished clips in fun colors and pretty patterns. Use a matching pair to pull your hair back evenly from a center or side part, or tuck a single barrette into the curve of a French twist for a lovely, sophisticated updo.
This large vintage gold comb was made in France and purchased there 35+ years ago. It’s just the hair accessory you need to make your updo feel instantly more polished. 14K gold-filled and it measures 4 1/2” by 2” in excellent condition.
This stylish barrette in a smooth resin material is in a lovely, on-trend shade of rich brown that is outlined in red. Perfect for updos and half-up styles, or with hair parted and pulled to the side. Made in France, 3.5” long, and in perfect condition. Trés chic!
This charming pair of vintage French combs features two brass bows set atop faux tortoiseshell combs, offering a timeless, feminine touch. They’re perfect for gently pulling hair behind the ears. They measure 2” x 2” and show slight signs of wear on the bows.
French Pins and Hair Sticks
A French pin or hair stick is a long, slender decorative rod, typically five to nine inches long, used to secure hair in buns and twists. Made from materials ranging from wood to bone, hair sticks have a long history, dating back thousands of years. One of the best things about them is their versatility: they can work with different hair lengths and textures, provided you have enough hair to twist or braid into place. For a particularly interesting touch, try one of the vintage pieces I've added to HOT. It's an easy way to bring a little extra personality and spice to your look.
This is a very beautiful handmade hair pin crafted from what looks to be padauk wood. It is slightly curved and very smooth, making it easy and flexible for holding an updo. The top of the hair pin is inlaid with a very thin piece of metal (perhaps copper or brass) stamped with KVB. These are likely the maker’s initials, suggesting the pin is a high-end hair accessory. It measures 6” x 1 1/2”.
This striking silver-toned metal hair stick, accented with a dramatic red bead, instantly elevates your hairdo with a bold dose of glamour and chic style. It measures 7” long.
Purchased in Indonesia in the 1990s, this striking hair stick was lovingly handmade in Bali from rich Indonesian wood. Measuring 7.5” long and finished with care, it remains in perfect condition.
Headbands
You know how I feel about headbands! They're a fabulous accessory that instantly makes almost anything you wear look more polished and pulled together. And few hair accessories work harder when you don't want to spend time styling your hair. This season, we're seeing plenty of padded, rounded, and structured shapes, along with velvet, satin, tortoiseshell, and leather. We've been featuring headbands on HOT since the very beginning, and I'm delighted to see them get their moment in the spotlight!
This unique and stunning headband is more like a gorgeous piece of jewelry than a headband! Large oval gold links combine with the navy braid to give you the look of a crown. Surprisingly comfortable to wear.
This classic turban style headband in a rich midnight blue velvet is studded with luminous white pearls for a chic finish to any outfit. 3” at the widest point, it fits very comfortably.
This elegant, narrow black velvet headband is beautifully embellished with sparkling rhinestone flowers, lustrous pearls, and a charming bee motif crafted from tiny rhinestone wings and a single large, luminous pearl for its body. Exceptionally chic and refined, it measures 1 1/4” wide.
