HOT 5 - 3/11/22
HOT Friends,
The image above is a painting by Ukrainian artist Maria Primachenko, 1909-1997. One of Ukraine's best-known artists, she was celebrated for her colorful "primitive" style paintings of animals, agriculture, everyday people, and themes of war and peace. Marc Chagall called her work brilliant. This painting is titled I Give My Little Stars To The Children. The children are all I can think about since the beginning of this brutal war. My husband's family is originally from Ukraine as are the families of many people in my life. We feel deep sympathy and support for everyone everywhere touched by this senseless war.

1. What We Can Do To Help Ukraine
It's hard not to feel helpless during times like these and it also can feel shallow and inappropriate to be interested in things like fashion and style when the world is falling apart. Fashion month has just ended and I can't imagine how difficult it was for designers and attendees of any stripe to think of much besides the horror going on just a few countries away from them. Not to mention that just as mask mandates seem to be ending, another terrifying catastrophe hits. It was exactly 2 years ago today that the WHO declared Covid 19 a global pandemic. I think the best way to deal with the helplessness is to do anything that you can and to that end, I've listed some links below to various programs. I'm planning on sending clothing (I have lots of barely worn, warm things in great condition) so I'm going to try and use the amazing sounding service of the last link.

2. The Best Kept Vintage Secret In Paris
I really loved this story from the New York Times about a tiny jewel of a shop called Les 3 Marches de Catherine B. on the Left Bank of Paris. The Proprietress, Catherine Benier, has curated an exquisite selection of rare and beautiful vintage accessories mostly by Chanel and Hermès. She opened the store in 1994 with a small array of coveted items and her first clients were Catherine Deneuve and Inès de la Fressange. Over the years it became a major resource for tastemakers, editors, and stylists. The fabulous story of Catherine B inspired me to share some of the special HOT vintage jewelry pieces I still have.
In 1980s Paris Alexis Lahellec jewelry was all the rage! It’s still a fun and fabulous look and much coveted. Many pieces are quite rare, like this over the top gilt resin pendant necklace consisting a gigantic pearl surrounded by rhinestone diamante square and circular stones. 18” long, the pendant is signed on the back. In excellent condition.
Purchased at his shop in Paris in the 80s, these amazing and unique earrings are a knockout! How perfectly on trend too as we see strong interest in bold gold jewelry with surreal themes featuring body parts like hands, lips and eyes. The large graceful gold-plated hands hold large baroque pearls and clip on. 3” long. Rare beauties in great condition!
This stunning and highly collectible necklace is an authentic vintage Chanel Lucky 7 necklace. Gold-tone rolo chain featuring 7 Chanel motifs: handbag, shoe, heart, perfume bottle, medallion and CC ornament. It was a gift from in the mid 2000s and it’s In very good condition. 20" long. this is a great price for it!
These bright iconic sun earrings featuring pearls and rhinestone inlay from designer Christian Lacroix were purchased in Paris in the 80s. They add major glam to your outfit and are highly collectible. Some minor wear on the pearl beads and the clip has been repaired on one of the earrings. 2” in diameter.
Beautiful necklace of tiny black beads interspersed with very large gold lamè fabric covered beads. Designed and signed by fabulous Italian jeweler Luisa Conti. This is one beautiful glamourous eye-catching piece!
Dominique Aurientis was one of my favorite jewelers working in Paris in the 8os! Known for whimsical pieces featuring lots of gold, gorgeous colorful stones and pearls, her pieces were coveted by fashionable French fashionistas. These gold-toned clip-ons are incredible statement makers! Signed by the designer, 3” long.
3. Headbands Still Going Strong!
Anyone who regularly reads the HOT blog knows how much I love a headband! A week doesn't go by that I haven't sported several. They can instantly clean up your hair act by smoothing and controlling your locks, they draw the eyes up, and add interest to your outfit through color and design. And I've even been known to wear two headbands at once for a little extra oomph!
I love how these images show that women of any age can wear them. Doesn't Dame Helen look just great in hers?
This very soft and comfortable black velvet headband is padded and studded with rows of shiny pink stones. Very pretty!
This unique and stunning headband is more like a gorgeous piece of jewelry than a headband! Large oval gold links combine with the navy braid to give you the look of a crown. Surprisingly comfortable to wear.
4. What's New In Beauty
The much-anticipated arrival of spring makes me want new beauty products almost as much as I want new clothes! After looking through hundreds of new items that have launched or are coming soon for spring 2022 these 5 sound like they could get me to part with my hard-earned dollars:
Dries Van Noten Beauty -- I love the designer Dries Van Noten and have for 30+ years so there was no question that I would be first in line when he finally launched beauty! Read all about the launch here. You may want to get in line too.
LYS Triple Fix Brightening Concealer $18 -- I'm always on the hunt for a fabulous under-eye concealer and this one ticks all the boxes. It's a clean formula that's been compared to Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, costs only $18, and LYS is a black-owned beauty brand!
Noble Panacea Chronobiology Sleep Mask $310 -- Why hasn't anyone thought of this before? It's brilliant! A sleep mask that's infused with polyhydroxy acid, retinol, peptides, ceramides, and botanical extracts to enhance the skin’s natural overnight regeneration and repair processes. Its price point is steep but kind of sounds worth it, no?
Sidia Braless Candle $58 -- This description for a new candle really got to me, especially the part about throwing my bra across the room! The Braless candle is equal parts woody, creamy, and floral — really bring to life that cozy feeling of coming home, putting on a pair of sweatpants, and flinging your wired bra across the room.
Freck Lashrocket Liner $24 -- An eyeliner that also helps your lashes grow? Sounds pretty perfect to me. I can't live without a great liquid eyeliner and my lashes seem to get sparser by the day so this one's a no-brainer!
5. This Week's HOT Pick -- It's Time For A Spring Jacket!
One of my favorite fashion items has got to be the lightweight jacket! I get so excited every spring to finally throw off my prison of a puffer and lighten up with something bright, cheery, and fresh. The window of opportunity to wear one seems to shrink yearly as it gets hotter earlier most likely due to climate change, sometimes it feels like we go from puffer to t-shirt! There are some new silhouettes in jackets this spring in pretty new fabrics like quilting, Check out the ones I've chosen for you below at all price points.
Terry xoxo
